Essential Oil Recipies
Time to play!
Here are some of my favorite essential oil
recipies. These are ones that I find most effective, use most
frequently used or are most pleasant to my senses!
When I refer to a 'carrier oil' in the
essential oil receipes below, I am referring to an unscented oil that
allows for a bit of dilution so that it can be applied to the skin. Click here for more information on unscented body massage oils.
My favorite carrier oil is jojoba oil,
because it is great for the skin, it feels great to use during a
massage because it allow the therapists hands to run smoothly, and it's
a 'fixative', which means it will hold the scent of whatever
aromatherapy essential oils you are using and keep them from going
rancid.
Some other carrier oils are virgin olive
oil, sweet almond oiil, hemp oil, grape seed oil, etc., but none of
these are fixatives, so your blends may go rancid after a while.
The key to making these essential oils
recipies effective is to focus on your intent while creating the blend.
That will infuse the blend with your intention.
Bug Repellent
10 drops Fennel Oil
1 oz. carrier oil
This is one of my favorite essential oil
recipes and I first tried it when I was working a Rennaissance Faire in
Tuxedo, New York. This area is typically a very mosquito infested area
during the summer, but I camped six weekends in a row and never got a
bite.
I also love it because it smells sweet, so
it kind of works as a perfume/deodorant (very important when camping)
and if anyone knows anything about Ren Faires, a friend of mine applied
some in the evening and told me the next morning that she was told this
blend tastes really good! I didn't ask for the rest of the story. ;-P
There are plenty of other oils you can use as bug repellent (peppermint and catnip are good choices, too).
Atomizer & Body Spray
2 oz Filtered or Spring Water (can substitute Witch Hazel, if desired)
1 - 2 drops Tea Tree Oil
4 Drops Lavender
Small Spray Bottle
This essential oil recipes using water
sprayers usually create a refreshing mist that is good for the skin. I
used to spray it on a cotton ball and use it as an astringent after
washing my face. It seemed to improve acne irritation.
There are many combinations of Body/Room
sprays. I encorage you to experiment. Just be cautious with the caustic
oils on the skin. Better to stick to more gentle ones like lavender
essential oil.
"Truth"
1/2 Tablespoon Carrier Oil
2 Drops Juniper Berry
4 Drops Rosemary
2 Drops Fennel
I made one of these essential oil recipes
for a client and I call it "Truth" because he was an individual having
difficulty asserting himself and speaking his truth. So I made this
blend for him with the intention of it assisting him when he needed to
be more expressive. I had him rub a little on his neck (that's the area
of the body that corresponds to self expression & communication)
and told me it helped.
"Life"
1 Tablespoon Carrier Oil
2 Drops Thyme
2 Drops Juniper Berry
This was for a client that was feeling
"bummed out". She was struggling to get out of her glass-half-empty
feeling toward life and didn't feel like socializing much. This is one
of many essential oil recipes I have to alleviate such feelings.
"Special K"
1 Tablespoon Carrier Oil
2 Drops Juniper Berry
2 Drops Pine Needle
1 Drop Clary Sage
2 Drops Bergamot
This blend was made for a client that
wanted to do a lot of clearing for the heart chakra. Sometimes the oils
in the essential oil recipes don't exactly correspond to the intended
purpose in the textbook sense, but I make my choices based on what
intuitively draws me. She was very happy with this blend.
"Cozy"
1 - 2 Tablespoon Carrier Oil
2 Drops Ylang Ylang
2 Drops Sandalwood
1 Drop Clove
Anything with clove essential oil just
makes me feel cozy. I have a similar association with Sandalwood. You
might need to add more carrier oil to this essential oil recipe if the
clove is too strong for sensitive skin.
"The People Person"
Are you going to a party and want to work the room with confidence and grace?
Then this is the essnetial oil recipe for you...
1 - 2 Tablespoon Carrier Oil
1 Drop Jasmine
1 Drop Sandalwood
1 Drop Ylang Ylang
Apply as a perfume and go!
Or add three drops of each essential oil to a bath and soak for 20 minutes.
