Body and Massage Brushes

Body and massage brushes can be used to massage the largest organ in the body... THE SKIN! Body and massage brushes are a good form of daily, self-maintenance, in between massage sessions.

Using body brushes daily is reported to improve the quality of the skin, restoring youthfulness and, in the leg area, reduce cellulite.

Because the brushes remove dead skin, they increase moisture on the skin and allows the skin to be more active in removing toxins from the body, which helps the other excretory organs such as the kidneys and bowel. They also increase circulation.

I enjoy using body brushes simply because it feels good! It kind of wakes up my system and my morning shower feels great!

INSTRUCTIONS: The brushes only need to be used for short time period (5-10 minutes) daily, on dry skin before going into the shower. Use the brushes to massage in a gentle, gliding, circular motion, gradually moving towards the torso. So start with the feet and move toward the body, or from the hands towards the body.

There are three types I have seen on the market that I like:

Bristle Body Brushes

These brushes are usually usually made of a wooden handle and natural bristles such as boar’s hair bristles. Sometimes they have a long handle so that you can reach every area of your back.

I like this kind the best because they are good for sensitive skin, even if you put a little too much vigor into the scrubbing.

I also like this kind because they can be used for exfoliating before using a self-tanner.

Wooden Knob Brushes

These look more like a ring holder than a tool to brush your body with. Before I knew what they were, I always wondered what ring holders were doing in spa shops!

The wooden knobs stimulate the skin much like the bristle brushes (mentioned above). I prefer the bristles, but this offers a different alternative when I'm in the mood.

They're also good if you don't want to spend as much. They tend to be less expensive than the bristle body and massage brushes.

Just be careful not to push to hard with the wooden knobs.

Wooden knob brushes exfoliate skin, but I am not sure they are as effective as the bristle brushes, therefore I give no definite answer as to how they would be for removing the dead skin before applying self-tanning cream.

Face Brushes

This face brush looks like the body brushes mentioned above, but are smaller. They work well to stimulate the skin on the face and are often softer than the body brushes because they use finer bore's hair bristles.

Remember to work gently on the face since the skin tends to be more sensitive.

Electronic Brushes (Vibrating Brushes)

There are also body and massage brushes on the market that come with batteries so that they vibrate, implying that they are more effective and require less work.

Personally, I think the added vibration is unnecessary, unless you enjoy the sensation it creates on your skin.
